MM3YVQ is my daughter, 2014 BSc (Hons) Graduate in Geography at Glasgow University, now also completed an MSc in Fresh Water Systems Science. We use our VX-6 and VX-7R handies for communication whilst climbing Scottish peaks. We usually like to do at least one Munro (a Scottish mountain with a summit over 3000ft)  together during the summer vacation, although in 2011 we settled for Stac Pollaidh – not a Munro but a very interesting mountain with incredible views.

Her undergraduate 4th year dissertation was on environment, land use, and flooding in the River Tay catchment area, which involved fieldwork in the Highlands, including a good deal of climbing above the river valley(s). I accompanied her on many of the trips.

2016-06-07 03a Ruth, Harestanes wind farm

At Harestanes Wind Farm, Forest of Ae, Dumfries & Galloway, June 2016. This was the far end of a 20Km hike along the valley of the Water of Ae – fieldwork for MM3YVQ’s MSc dissertation. Ideally we would have liked to have gone on to the source of the river at Pot of Ae, and maybe climbed Queensberry, but there was far too much work to do. Nevertheless it was a great day’s activity, though exhausting in the 24 degree heat and humidity. Image ©GM4ULS.
